Help Fund My University Education in Italy

My name is Maxwell Obeng, and I am a student from Ghana who has been admitted to the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE) in Italy to study Data Analytics for Business and Finance.

I am grateful to have received a tuition exemption from UNIMORE and to have been awarded eligibility for ER.GO student support for the 2026/2027 academic year, including accommodation support eligibility. These opportunities are important steps towards making my university education possible. However, my accommodation eligibility does not mean that a specific room has already been assigned to me. I am still waiting for confirmation of my accommodation arrangements, and I am planning carefully for the remaining costs of preparing to travel and begin my studies.

I am raising GH₵20,000 to help cover my mandatory university enrolment payment, student visa and documentation expenses, flight, and other essential study-start costs.

How the GH₵20,000 will be used

1. University enrolment — GH₵2,100

UNIMORE has confirmed a mandatory fixed payment of €159.67 for enrolment-related costs. The GH₵2,100 allocation is an estimate of the amount needed in Ghanaian cedis, including a possible allowance for exchange-rate differences and payment charges.

2. Student visa and documentation — GH₵1,800

This is an estimated allowance towards my Italian student visa application and related preparation costs. Depending on the applicable requirements, these may include visa service charges, photographs, document preparation, translations, legalisation, and other necessary administrative expenses. The final amount will depend on the fees and documentation required when I apply.

3. Flight from Ghana to Italy — GH₵10,790

This allocation is for my expected one-way flight from Ghana to Italy. Airfares can vary depending on the travel date, airline, route, baggage allowance, and ticket availability. I will use the funds towards the actual ticket cost when I am ready to book.

4. Other essential study-start expenses — GH₵5,310

In addition to enrolment, visa preparation, and airfare, I need to budget for other practical expenses associated with preparing for international travel and starting university. My current estimated breakdown is:

Travel insurance — GH₵800

Luggage and travel essentials — GH₵1,200

Initial local transportation — GH₵600

Essential study materials and supplies — GH₵800

Initial personal and settling-in essentials — GH₵1,210

Other necessary study-start preparations — GH₵700

Total for other essential study-start expenses: GH₵5,310.

These are planning estimates, not fixed quotations. The actual costs may change, and I will prioritise necessary expenses and use genuine prices and available supporting documentation to guide my spending.

My existing support and what I still need

I am sincerely grateful for the tuition exemption from UNIMORE and my ER.GO support eligibility for the 2026/2027 academic year. These opportunities reduce some of the financial barriers to pursuing my education in Italy.

I want to be transparent about the status of this support. I have been awarded eligibility for ER.GO student support, including accommodation support, but I have not yet been assigned a specific room. I am therefore not presenting accommodation as an already secured arrangement, and I have not included a separate accommodation-rent amount in this fundraising target.

I still need to prepare for my mandatory enrolment payment, visa and documentation process, flight, and other essential study-start expenses. The amounts in this campaign are estimates, and I will use available official fee information, actual prices, and genuine quotations where possible to guide my spending.

Being admitted to UNIMORE is an important opportunity for me, and I am determined to make the most of it. However, I cannot cover all the remaining costs of preparing for my studies on my own.
