Help Me Secure Safe Accommodation for My Mother

My name is Rihannat, and I am a young working woman doing everything I can to keep my mom and myself from homelessness.

I have a job and I earn an income, but the current cost of living and the financial responsibilities I carry have become more than I can manage alone at this moment.

My mother is my only surviving parent and, and she is fully dependent on me so my immediate priority is making sure she has a safe and secure place to live.

Our current rent expired on 31st August. Renewing the house is no longer an option because the rent has increased to ₦5 million. The location is also very far from my workplace, and the difficult commute affects my ability to get to work on time and puts the job I depend on at risk.

Rather than remain in a house we can no longer afford, I have found a more affordable mini-flat for my mother, costing approximately ₦1 million.

Because we have a significant amount of household belongings that we have been unable to sell, we need a mini-flat rather than a single room, which would have been cheaper. The additional space will temporarily help us store our belongings while we continue trying to sell them.

Because the place we found for my mother is equally far from my workplace, I am not able to move in with her and so will need an accommodation of my own.

My first priority however, is to secure my mother's accommodation and move our belongings to safety. Once she is settled, I will focus on securing my own accommodation closer to my workplace.

Where the funds will go:

My mother's accommodation: ₦1,000,000

Moving and logistics: ₦500,000

My own accommodation: ₦3,000,000

Total needed: ₦4,500,000

I have already raised and committed ₦600,000 of my own money, leaving us with an outstanding need of:

₦3,900,000

I have genuinely tried to raise this money myself. I have a car that I have been trying to sell, as well as household belongings we have attempted to sell. Unfortunately, our current location is so far from central areas that many potential buyers lose interest when they realize how difficult it is to come for an inspection.

I am not asking for help because I have refused to take responsibility for my situation. I am working, I am contributing my own money, and I am actively trying to sell my assets.

Unfortunately, time has become my biggest challenge.

Without a solution soon, we risk losing access to our current home and having nowhere safe to keep our belongings.
