Back to School With Hope: Help 200 Children Return to School Ready to Learn

They Are Ready to Learn. They Just Need Support.

For a child, returning to school should be a time of excitement — a chance to learn, grow, make friends and look forward to what the future can become.

But for some children in Ilesa, Osun State, returning to school comes with a difficult reality.

School fees, worn-out uniforms, inadequate footwear and a lack of basic learning materials can make going back to school a struggle.

We went to see the need for ourselves. 

Appropriate consent has been obtained for the use of identifiable children's photographs.

On 14 July 2026, the Safe Child Foundation team visited St. John's Nursery & Primary School, Iloro, Ilesa, as part of a beneficiary assessment.

The purpose was simple: to understand the children's needs directly and identify the support that would make the greatest difference as the new school term approached.

During the assessment, the team met children who were eager to learn but lacked some of the basic things they need to return to school prepared.

The assessment identified needs including:

• school bags; 

• school uniforms; 

• school sandals; 

• water bottles; 

• school fees; 

• socks; 

• writing materials; and 

• exercise books. 

Who We Are Supporting

200 Children. 200 Dreams.

Through the Back-to-School Support Program, Safe Child Foundation aims to support 200 vulnerable children in Ilesa, Osun State.

During the assessment visit, 200 pupils were assessed at St. John's Nursery & Primary School, Iloro, and areas requiring support were identified.

The wider campaign objective is to support 200 children through the back-to-school intervention.

What We Plan to Provide

The goal is to help these children return to school prepared, confident and ready to learn.

Support raised through this campaign will go toward the priority needs identified through the assessment, including:

School Fees Support

Helping children who are at risk of missing school because their families cannot meet their school-fee obligations.

Learning Materials

Providing essential writing materials, exercise books and other learning supplies needed for everyday participation in school.

School Essentials

Providing priority items such as school bags, uniforms, sandals, socks and water bottles to children identified as needing them.

The intended outcome is simple:

No child should be unable to participate fully in school simply because they lack basic necessities.
